No-faith motion against Ravi K. given to Speaker

The opposition yesterday handed over to Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa a no-confidence motion against Finance Minister Ravi Karunanyake signed by nearly 100 parliamentarians, sources said.

UPFAMPs Bandula Gunawardane, Ranjith de Zoysa, Janaka Wakkumbura and Weerakumara Dissanayake handed over the motion on behalf of the opposition.

Sources said the Speaker had agreed to place the no-confidence motion in the Parliament Order Book. The no-confidence motion highlights the minister’s involvement in the appointment of a Singaporean as the Central Bank Governor and his involvement in the controversial bond issue and the resultant collapse of the Stock Exchange.

The Order Book contains three other pending motions against -Minister John Amaratunga, Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran and Bribery Commission Director Dilrukshi Wickramasinghe.
