Seven patients with influenza hospitalis­ed

A medical officer said the Medical Research Institute that carried out tests confirmed that two of them had developed symptoms of influenza HINI and the others were under observatio­n.

Seven patients including three women who developed symptoms of influenza H1N1 have been admitted to the Panadura hospital.

Three of them are under treatment in the intensive care unit and the others have been transferre­d to a special ward and one of them is an expectant mother. A medical officer said the Medical Research Institute that carried out tests confirmed that two of them had developed symptoms of influenza HINI and the others were under observatio­n.

He said the symptoms were not those of bird flu. The patients concerned had developed fever, severe headache and cold and were subject to special treatment. The medical officer said adequate precaution­ary measures had been taken to prevent others from contractin­g the disease.
