Garbage piles up in Hendala area

-

The clearance of garbage in the Hendala, Nayakakanda, Matagoda and Balagala areas has come to a standstill for the past three weeks and the situation has worsened after the expiry of the term of office of the Hendala Pradeshiya Sabha.

Garbage dumped along the road sides by the people and the business establishments has become an eyesore. Some had even resorted to hanging bags of garbage on the road side garden walls. The nauseating smell from the garbage including offal of slaughtered animals has created a serious health hazard.

Houses in the area are infested with flies and mosquitoes exposing the residents of the area, particularly the children, to the danger of contagious diseases. Meanwhile, storm water drains along the main bus routes have been obstructed with rubble preventing the free flow of waste water. Residents of the area request the authorities, including the Minister of Public Order representing the area to look into the matter and implement an effective plan for garbage removal.
