To President Sirisena: Beware of the Rajapaksas!

- Concerned Citizen

Mahinda Rajapaksa is still reeling under his defeat, being the first ever Sri Lankan President to be defeated at a presidential election. This fact is quite apparent to all when one sees how he manipulates those political parasites like Wimal Weerawansa, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Dinesh Gunawardana and Udaya Gammanpila, and a few corrupt SLFP MPs and Provincial Councillors to stage rallies demanding that MR be made the prime ministerial candidate of the SLFP. These organizers know very well that they are politically doomed without Rajapaksa.

MR’s ability to manipulate the politicians (even the LTTE leaders in 2005) to win elections and remain in power by passing the 18th Amendment to the Constitution, as well as his ruthlessness (i.e. treatment meted out to our war hero Gen. Sarath Fonseka and the CJ Shirani Bandaranayake) are clear signs of the venomous streak in him.

Our affable President Maithripala Sirisena who was also at the receiving end of Rajapaksa’s tirade should take all precautions to safeguard his life as well as the future of this country, which unfortunately was bled to death by Rajapaksa and his family members and their henchmen during 2005 to 2014. President Sirisena should take effective measures almost immediately to nullify the sinister moves of MR, as otherwise, what happened to the former Maldivian President Nasheed could easily happen to him too.

One of the effective ways of nullifying the sinister moves of MR to regain power is to highlight the mass-scale corruption that had taken place during his regime. Mere levelling of accusations or shouting by the government politicians is not enough. President Sirisena and the Government have already initiated action to investigate several allegations of bribery & corruption, murders, drug trafficking, abductions, arms deal, procuring of MIG fighters, siphoning of billions of US$ to accounts in foreign banks, etc. etc., Due to the good governance promised by President Sirisena, those involved cannot he dragged into Courts and jailed like what Rajapaksa did to Gen. Fonseka and former CJ. It will take a very long time for the culprits and the murderers to be punished in a lawful manner. In the meantime, at least the present status of all these investigations should be made public almost immediately. If their names cannot he publicized due to legal requirements, at least all other details should be made public in order to make the people aware that action is being taken. Then only the people would be aware of the mass-scale “money sucking” (bleeding the nation) that took place during MR’s regime.

President Sirisena, please act before it is too late. Otherwise, your presidency, your life and our lives and the whole country will be in danger.
