A shop owner down Art Gallery Road, Hirana in Panadura was slashed to death recently inside her own shop. In the complaint lodged by the son of the deceased it was alleged that the mother had been having an illicit affair with a person running a pharmacy who was also married.

When the media visited the funeral house, most of those who were present had declined to speak to the press about the incident.

The story gathered by the media relying on the facts obtained from visitors at the funeral, related that the deceased woman had lost her husband, an Airman about sixteen years ago while in service. With her three children she had to battle it out for her existence. There were several men who had stepped in to help her but among them Jayantha the owner of a Pharmacy was special.

His wife had lodged a complaint with the police about her husband’s behaviour. The Pharmacy owner had fled the area soon after the murder of Thushari, which aroused suspicion and led to the police trailing him. Evidence also proved there had been a struggle between the woman and the suspect which ended with the suspect slashing her with a sharp weapon. The deceased woman’s house was located about one kilometre away from the Pharmacy.

It was usual for the deceased woman to return home after closing her shop around 9.30 p.m.. On the day of the incident as she had not returned. The husband of the eldest daughter of the deceased woman had knocked at the doors of the shop and as there was no answer, he had alerted the other children who had entered the shop and in the dark had searched inside.
