The Regent unveils unique Country Club concept Nestled in Malabe, the newest property of LAHRC Management Services (Pvt) Ltd, The Regent has attracted public attention since its construction stage.

Among laughter and good company, The Regent was recently opened to t he public. The Country Club currently offers a pool, basketball court, children play area, a banquet hall which can house up to 150 packs and 2 conference halls for smaller gatherings.

During the second stage of the construction stage, gym and spa facilities, a state-of-the-art laundry, club house, a badminton court and squash court will be added during the second and third stages.

“The way it has turned out and come out today, I think this is far better than what we expected initially,” said Shehan Gomez, Director of The Regent, speaking at the opening.

With t he opening of t he Outer Circular Highway, The Regent is easily accessible for visitors from areas such as Panadura and Wattala. Driving through the gates, the visitor is greeted with a serene, beautiful atmosphere. The Regent is built so that the architectural design and the natural beauty of the landscape would compliment one another. “The beauty of the property has turned out much better than expected,” Gomez stated, “Hats off to our architect, Sonali Rassool. She did a fantastic job”.

The Regent is equipped with a stateof-the-art industrial kitchen which will act as a backhouse operation and supply both outdoor and indoor catering through The Regent and The Chariot Banqueting and Restaurants (Pvt) Ltd.

Upul Gamage, CEO of LAHRC Management Services said, “With this type of kitchen, for all our outdoor catering we can give a uniform quality [with] organically prepared [food], like a 5 star hotel. It’s a very state-ofthe-art, hygiene oriented production facility. We can be sure that what we promise, we can deliver”.

There are swimming clubs, golf clubs and other sporting facilities in Sri Lanka. However, the concept of a country club is a recent introduction to the country. “At first my feelings were mixed on building a country club as such. I wanted to just build the banquet hall facilities and offer it to the public,” stated Gomez. “But then I’ve got so many inquiries for membership that it seems like a feasible option and it actually makes me very proud that when someone comes here the first thing they want to ask me is ‘Can I be a member?’ he went on to say, which naturally directs one’s attention towards the highly anticipated membership for the country club.

The membership of The Regent will grant the use of the facilities at The Regent and discounts across The Reefs Edge Hotel Uswetakeiyawa, the Grand Ark banquet hall, The Hamilton Deck, every Chariot outlet and the St Lachlan Hotel and Suites in Negombo. The details of the membership are currently being finalized, and The Regent would be inviting institutions to take up membership in the near future. At present, the membership would be limited to corporations, and Gomez stated that in a year or so, The Regent would consider extending the membership to a few key individuals.

While the facilities at The Regent would be available to the members, the banquet hall and conference facilities are available to any customer. With its sprawling garden with a 30 by 30 lawn area capable of housing a marquee, The Regent is an ideal setting to host outdoor functions such as weddings. Gamage stated that customers can select between The Regent and its duplication at Uswetakeiyawa by the lagoon to host their outdoor functions.
