Wanted suspect evading arrest nabbed

A suspect wanted in connection with a series of criminal offences who was believed to have drowned in the sea was arrested by the Ratgama Police when he was evading arrest under a misnomer.

He was produced before the Galle Additional Magistrate Kesara Samaradiva­kara and remanded till June 10, 2015. However, when a team of police officers checked a suspicious motorcycle, the rider had produced his driving licence, and the national identity card bearing his name as Moratuwa Modara Hewage Roshan Perera. The police further questioned him on suspicion to find that was the wanted man Arumahandi Tilak Shantha de Silva who was believed to have drowned. Police said a series of complaints against him at the Hikkaduwa, Metiyagoda and Nawagamuwa police stations were pending. Investigat­ions revealed he had been using a motorcycle stolen from the Pinwatta area of Panadura.
