Army Corporal and others enlarged on bail
The Army Corporal who was charged for gaining access to the meeting attended by President Maithripala Sirisena in Angunakolapelessa armed with an illegal fire arm, and was remanded along with an ASP and a police Sergeant who had aided and abetted were enlarged Rs 25,000 cash bail and surety bails of Rs 200,000 each, by the Angunakolapelessa Magistrate Nayantha Samaratunga.
The Magistrate also ordered the Passports of the three suspects to be taken under the custody of the Courts and directed the Controller of Immigration and Emigration to prevent them from leaving the country. The Magistrate also ordered the suspects to present themselves before the OIC of the Colombo CID once every two weeks on Sundays between 9.00 am and 1 2.00 noon.
The suspect Army Corporal was charged for having entered the venue of a meeting attended by the President in Angunakolapelessa on April 25, 2015 carrying an unauthorised firearm while being a security guard of the VIP unit of MP Namal Rajapaksa. On information received from the STF the corporal was removed from the venue and later taken into custody
