Businessma­n held: Illegally assembled vehicles seized

ABusinessm­an in the Maraluwawa area of Kurunegala was taken into custody last morning during a raid for illegally assembling motor cars with parts smuggled to the country . During the raid police seized two motorcars that had been illegally assembled.

Investigat­ions revealed the suspect had been employed in Japan and he had been carrying on the racket for a long time with the help of other expatriate workers in Japan.

The suspect and the seized vehicles were to be produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate yesterday afternoon.

A police team under OIC Anti Vice Squad, IP A.A.P. Kulatunga was conducting further investigat­ions to recover the vehicles illegally assembled and sold to individual­s in several areas of the country.
