“UNP LEADERS WOULD HAVE TO CONSUME POISON AFTER AUGUST 17”

- BY SANDUNAJAYASEKERA

The UNP and the JVP are attempting to link the Rajapaksa family to the murder of Havelock SC rugby captain Wasim Thajudeen

The UPFA yesterday alleged that the government has misappropriated Rs.26 billion in the award of the tender to build the Central Expressway after changing its name from Northern Expressway and the contract offered by the Mahinda Rajapaksa government.

UPFA Colombo district candidate Bandula Gunawardana said UNP leaders would have no option but to consume poison after August 17 as they had lied to the country.

Dangling six bottles which Mr. Gunawardena claimed to contain poison, told journalists, that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe would have to drink poison for attempting to cover up the bond scandal, Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayaka for using underworld gansters for his election campaign, Arjuna Mahendran for committing the biggest financial fraud, Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Smaraweera for making the vote a lottery and Eran Wickremaratne for creating a fear psychosis among public servants.

UPFA national list nominee Dilan Perera told the media that the launching of the expressway project by the UNP government during the election campaign was a violation of the election law. “The government says the cost was half of the estimated cost of the UPFA government. The construction of one kilometer had been estimated at Rs.3.36 billion under the UPFA government but it has risen to Rs.4.5 billion under the UNP-led Yahapalana government

UNP and the JVP were in a malicious attempt to connect the Mahinda Rajapaksa family to the murder of Havelock Club ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen.

incurring a loss of Rs. 26 billion with the total cost increasing to Rs.149.9 billion from the initial estimate of Rs. 120 billion,” Mr. Perera said and added that this loss was second only to that of the Central Bank bond scam.

UPFA Colombo district candidate Udaya Gammanpila said the UNP and the JVP were in a malicious attempt to connect the Mahinda Rajapaksa family to the murder of Havelock Club ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen. “I challenge them to go to the police and lodge a complaint against any member of the Rajapaksa family if they have evidence to implicate them for the murder,” Mr. Gammanpila said.

He claimed that the propaganda speeches by Mr. Wickremesinghe and JVP leader Anura Dissanayaka were similar and appears to have been written by one person.
