- BY T . FAROOK THAJUDEEN AND LAKMAL SOORIYAGODA

Former Havelock’s captain, ruggerite Mohamed Wassem Thajudeen’s body is to be exhumed next Monday by a court order for the autopsy.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Pieris gave this order to the CID and the lengthy order was read out by the interpreter mudaliyar in court yesterday. The order was made consequent to a request made by Senior State Counsel Dilan Ratnayake who appeared in the case on behalf of the Attorney General and stated that there were doubtful fractures that had been caused to the limbs of the victim which the CID wants to ascertain the reason. He said as such to allow the CID to exhume the remains of Thajudeen to conduct a post morterm for the second time as the earlier interim report filed by the JMO in court did not reveal anything about it.

The Magistrate’s stated that exhuming the body of Thajudeen for the post mortem examination would not affect anyone as no one had been named as suspects to the incident so far and no indictment had been filed in court.

He also said that the CID would exhume the body to find out cause for the death of Mr. Thajudeen and to ascertain how the fractures to the limbs were caused.

The Magistrate said it was vital during a Magisterial inquiry to find out the cause of the death and the prime duty of the Police assisting the magistrate in such inquiries to provide detailed reports.
