RCHC win over UoC
Royal College Hockey Club posted a convincing 8-0 win over University of Colombo in a ‘B’division Pioneer Cup hockey match at theAstro turf on Sunday after leading 4-0 at half time.
In the 3rd minute of play Ashane Peiris put RCHC one up and in the 6th minute F. Hallaj added the second goal. In the 20th minute S. Wijenayake made it 3-0 and two minutes later Peiris shot his second goal to make the score 4-0 at half time.
After the change of ends, L. Manchanayake made it 5-0 for RCHC and three minutes later it was S. Tilakaratne in action to give RCHC their 6th goal. The 7th goal was once again off the stick of Ashane Peiris, his third 7-0 and the final was in the 48th minute by L. Manchanayake to give RCHC and 8-0 win. The game was controlled by M. Naushad and Ajith Jayasena while H.L. Mithrapala was the third umpire.
KDU DOWN UOK
Kotalawela Defence University downed the University of Kelaniya by twelve goals to one in a CHA ‘B’ division, Pioneer Cup hockey fixture at the Astro turf on Sunday. At half time led 4-1. In the 6th minute of the game centre forward H.M.G. Herath opened the scoring for KDU but in the 14th minute R.A.P. Kumarasinghe equalized for University of Kelaniya off a penalty stroke.
In the 18th, 24th and 26th minutes Herath got his stick onto the ball three times to complete a hat trick and make the score 4-1 in favour of KDU at half time.
After the break, KDU continued to score at will. In the 8th minute, H.M. Bandara made it tally 5-0 in favour of KDU and in the 36th minute here repeated the performance to make the score 6-0.
Six minutes later N. Kalinga made it 7-0. In the 42nd 46th and 48th minutes Bandara scored a hat trick to make the score 10-0.
The final hoals were by H.M. Dandeniya in the 54th and 56th minutes to give KDU a 12-1 win.
The game was controlled by Damith Jayasena and H.L. Mithrapala while Damith Jayasena was the third umpire. (B.M.)
