DNA TEST ON THAJUDEEN

The CID is to conduct a DNA test on the remains of ruggerite Waseem Thajudeen’ s body with his mother’s blood samples to ascertain whether the body exhumed during the second autopsy was really that of Thajudeen or some others, CID detectives told Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Pieris yesterday.

The detectives made this submission to the Magistrate during the inquiry into the death of Mohamed Waseem Thajudeen who died under mysterious circumstan­ces near the Shalika Playground in Narahenpit­a allegedly in an accident. His charred body was recovered by the Police from the scene of the accident.

The CID also said they had recorded statements from 30 persons and requested the Magistrate to notice the Chief Executive officer of Dialog Mobile Phone company to present himself before the CID to discuss certain issues with regard to the telephone conversati­ons the deceased had over his Dialog connection. The CID also said that they were seeking expert advice on the damages that were caused to the rear number plate of the vehicle.

The detectives said investigat­ions into the incident were continuing from various perspectiv­es. Counsel Ranil Samarasing­he appearing with Isuru Balapatabe­ndhi, Buddika Mathew, Madhawa Wijesiriwa­rdena and Manjula Ranatunge on behalf of Dialog Mobile Phone company said that his client had given all the assistance to the CID in their investigat­ions .However there was some informatio­n which the company did not have access or records. The Magistrate appreciate­d the cooperatio­n extended by the Dialog Phone Company.

He said it was the duty of everyone to assist the CID investigat­ions and requested the Dialog Mobile Phone Company to follow up their assistance provided to the CID to complete the probe. The case was postponed for December 10.
