- BY M. SHAMIL AMIT

Right arm pacie Dhammika Prasad and the right and left arm spin combination of Dilruwan Perera and Milinda Siriwardana combined with effect to give Sri Lanka a 37-run lead on day two in the 2nd Test match played at P. Sara Stadium yesterday.

The trio shared nine wickets between them helping Sri Lanka dominate proceedings in either side of the lunch break as West Indies resuming on their overnight score of 17 for 1 were bowled out for 163.

Later in the day Kaushal Silva and debutant Kusal Mendis put on a 55 runs partnership for the second wicket after Sri Lanka batting the second time lost their first wicket in the first ball to end the day on 76 for 2 for a overall lead of 113 runs.

It was Prasad who was responsible in the early collapse of West Indies who went into the lunch break on 77 for 4. Prasad removed night watchman Devendra Bishoo with the Windies having added 16 runs to their overnight score.

Prasad followed it up with another wicket three runs later that of Darren Bravo (2) before Milinda Siriwardana dislodged Marlon Samuels.

The post lunch

session saw the West Indies batsmen being bogged down further as Prasad and Siriwardana continued to torment them. Opener Kraigg Brathwaite who was unbeaten on 37 at lunch added further ten runs before he was removed by Siriwardana for a 101 ball knock of 47.

Jermaine Blackwood who walked into the crease felt uncomfortable and was lacking the confidence he had at the Galle encounter. Though he lofted Siriwardana for a six, he did not last long facing 31 balls for his 16 runs before becoming Prasad’s fourth victim.

Denesh Ramdin and skipper Jason Holder were able to put in some resistance adding 32 runs for the seventh wicket before Rangana Herath separated the duo with Ramdin’s wicket.

The late order batting had little to offer as Dilruwan who went wicket less till then cleaned off the tail by bagging the remaining three wickets to bowl out the Windies for 163.
