Gunathilake, Jayasuriya and Vandersay picked for WI ODIs

-

Sri Lanka have named three uncapped players-Dhanushka Gunathilake, Shehan Jayasuriya and Jeffrey Vandersay in the 15-man-squad to face the visiting West Indies team in the three-match ODI series.

The selectors have also recalled spinner Ajantha Mendis, medium pacer Nuwan Kulasekera and fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera.

The uncapped trio produced some excellent performances for Sri Lanka A against New Zealand A early this month which was key for their selection to the senior team.

Legspinner Vandersay claimed a five-wicket haul against New Zealand A in Christchurch in the past week, while opening batsman Gunathilaka hit backto-back half-centuries in Christchurch earlier this month. Top-order batsman Jayasuriya though had not been in excellent form with the bat had taken six wickets in the four List A games in New Zealand.

Kulasekera comes back to the national side, having missed the series against Pakistan due to poor form while Mendis last played a ODI in December 2014 against England. Chameera who made his international debut during the World Cup missed the Pakistan series due to injuries.

The selectors have however shut the door on opening bat Upul Tharanga, allrounder Thisara Perera, Sachith Pathirana, Seekkuge Prasanna and Ashan Priyanjan, who played against Pakistan but failed to impress.

Sri Lanka play West Indies in three ODIs, the first of which is set to be played in Colombo on November 1.

ODI squad: Angelo Mathews, Lahiru Thirimanne, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kusal Perera, Dinesh Chandimal, Milinda Siriwardana, Shehan Jayasuriya, Sachithra Senanayake, Jeffrey Vandersay, Ajantha Mendis, Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Kulasekara, Suranga Lakmal, Dushmantha Chameera, Danushka Gunathileka
