Night club owner STABBED TO DEATH

Victim holds many Guinness Records

Nightclub owner and karate champion Wasantha Soyza had been stabbed to death by an unidentifi­ed gang in Anuradhapu­ra on Saturday night, the Police said.

The crime had taken place at the nightclub at Muditha Street in Anuradhapu­ra at around 11.45 p.m. Saturday night.

The 57-year-old nightclub owner, who was also a karate champion, holds Guinness World Record of breaking 12 slabs of concrete in one blow.

Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said that a gang of 20 masked men entered the nightclub and attacked its owner and employees with clubs, sword and sharp objects.

He said the nightclub owner and three other persons including the manager, who were injured during the attack, had been rushed to the Anuradhapu­ra Teaching Hospital and Soyza died after admission to the hospital.

He said several vehicles that were parked outside the nightclub were also damaged during the incident.

According to the Police the nightclub owner was blamed couple of times for running a nightclub in Anuradhapu­ra, which is considered a sacred city.

Police said the incident had been recorded on the CCTV camera and according to CCTVfootag­e that the gang had fled from the scene stealing money and liquor bottles.

A Police officer was also killed at the same location earlier. Police said so far no one had been arrested in connection with the incident and several masks and gloves believed to be used in the attack had been recovered abandoned at a place near theAnuradh­apura Maithripal­a Park.

Anuradhapu­ra Acting Magistrate Priyadarsh­ani Kariyawasa­m conducted the magisteria­l inquiry.TheAnuradh­apura Police are investigat­ing.
