We support govt.’s efforts to implement Geneva Resolution: Anandan
The housing project, donated by the Indian Government, had been mishandled by a minister along with his officials who were also his supporters
Although the UNHRC resolution had not met the expectations of the Tamil people, they should collectively work to implement the resolution before them, Wanni District Parliamentarian Sivasakthi Anandan said at an an event held in his honour at the Veerakaththi Vinayagar Temple at Omanthai in Vavuniya on Saturday (24).
However, he charged that even at the all-party conference summoned by the President, extremist leaders centred their discussions on protecting politicians and the army alleged to have been involved in war crimes, he said.
Addressing the event he said that the housing project, donated by the Indian Government, had been mishandled by a minister along with his officials who were also his supporters.
He alleged that these persons had abused their powers when granting deeds to these houses and hence around 30 villages were without any houses including basic infrastructure facilities and were also faced with various other issues. Under these circumstances, the government had claimed that the budget would bring a host of relief measures to the people. “We sincerely hope that the next budget will create a conducive environment for our people to live in peace and harmony and if that is the case we will extend our fullest cooperation,” Mr. Anandan said.
He said that the incumbent government should pay due attention to good governance and reconciliation including providing relief to the public and employment opportunities to the youth.
Northern Province Health Minister P. Sathialingam, Provincial Council Member G.T Linganathan, Ministers Nadaraj, M. Thiagarasa, R. Indirarasa and many others also took part.
