World Bodybuilding Championships
Four musclemen from Defence Services for
Four Sri Lankan musclemen will represent Sri Lanka at the 69th World Bodybuilding Tournament (WBBT) scheduled to be held from November 5 to 9 at Benidorm,Alicante, Spain with the participation of 191 countries.
Subash Siriwardena (Navy), the National Body Building Hero will take part in the 65kg weight class. Subash won a Gold medal at the 48th Mr.Asia Bodybuilding Championship held in Sri Lanka 2014 and he won a Bronze medal winner at the World Bodybuilding Tournament held at Brazil in November 2014.
W.D.C. Dias (Navy) will take part in the same weight class. Dias grabbed the fourth place at the 49th AFBF Asian Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships 2015 in Kitakyushu, Japan and he has won the first place in the 60kg class at the Mr. Sri Lanka competition held in Colombo last year after a tough struggle.
Darshana Ranmudu (Army) will take part in the 65 kg class. Darshana won second place in 55 kg class at theAsian Bodybuilding Championships in Kazakhstan 2013. He was also placed third place in 55kg class 48th Mr.Asia Bodybuilding Championships in Sri Lanka 2014. He also won first place in the 60kg and was placed third placed overall in the tournament at the Western Province Bodybuilding contest held in Colombo last September. W.A. Janith Buddika (Army) will take part in the 70kg weight class. Janith won the first place in 70kg at theWestern Province Bodybuilding tournament 2015 and he won first place in 70kg and the third place at the Colombo District Bodybuilding tournament 2015.
TheSriLankaTeamwasselected after considering the results of the World Bodybuilding Tournament 2014 and the Asian Body Building Tournament held in Colombo.
Five official with Ranil Sampath, the National coach of bodybuilding, Amila Nishantha,Team manager, Kithisiri Fernando, President of the Sri Lanka Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation, Kapila Kumara Executive Officer Asian Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation and D.N. Weeratunga, a championship judge will be the officials on tour.
The participating musclemen and the coach have been provided with air-tickets by the Ministry of Sports to take part in the event.
Sri Lanka team will leave on November 3 for the tournament in Spain.
