Major cannabis dealer arrested in Kandy

A suggestion to site his office where his heart is

Ten suspects wanted in connection with the sale of cannabis (Ganja), mainly to youngsters and school going children in several areas in Kandy, were taken into custody by the Anti Vice Squad of the Katugastot­a Police.

One of those arrested was identified as the kingpin behind the racket. The suspect was a 30-year-old-man hailing from Colombo and was married to a woman in the Katugastot­a area. Investigat­ions had revealed that he procured the stock of ganja in bulk quantities of about 250grammes at a time from Colombo and distribute­d it through his dealers in small ready-to-use packets which were easier to transport and to conceal.

Police, conducting investigat­ions into the racket, had arrested the ring leader during a raid in the Katugastot­a area who was made to name his accomplice­s, leading to their arrest. Other suspects were him to set up his office.

“Where?” the purohita eagerly asked the bigwig.

“Either at Somawatiya or at Kebilitta Devalaya,” replied the bigwig.

The purohita looked down bashfully as ripples of amusement passed through other purohitas.

his purohita is well known for his love for the environmen­t and his great reverence for the ancient Buddhist shrines and devalayas. He is said to be spending more of his time visiting such sacred places than at public functions. He has also claimed that he had occasion to sight even devatas (deities) at some sacred places during his visits.
