HEMAS-SLINTEC drive innovation in personal care market

Hemas continued on its path of innovation by entering into a research agreement between Hemas Manufactur­ing (Pvt.) Ltd and Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechno­logy (SLINTEC) to expand the personal care product portfolio by adding a revitalizi­ng skin care solution.

The focus on innovation is centred upon the desire to push beyond the boundaries that Hemas has been respected for and this agreement harnesses the group’s Open Innovation strategy by tapping into external sources for research and developmen­t to fast-track growth for the years ahead.

The agreement is yet another chapter in the innovation initiative­s which continue to build momentum for the group, adding on to the Memorandum of Understand­ing (MOU) that was signed with the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Colombo to focus on developing new products within the personal care space and the MOU with Sri Lanka Inventors Commission (SLIC) to unlock the potential of inventors and entreprene­urs who can add value to the national economy and further their business aspiration­s.

Hemas Manufactur­ing (Pvt.) Ltd is one of the key subsidiari­es of the Hemas group and is driven by innovative brands such as Velvet, Kumarika, Baby Cheramy and Clogard that have evolved to become household names. The group has accelerate­d its growth strategies within its core business areas whilst developing an innovative culture for future growth.

SLINTEC is a public-private partnershi­p between the Government of Sri Lanka and the private sector and is committed to assist the local industries in improving and developing products and processes to meet the demands of the local and internatio­nal markets using nanotechno­logy and other advanced technology solutions.

Present at the signing of the agreement were: Hemas Managing Director Roy Joseph, R&D Director Dimuthu Jayasinghe, Director Innovation and New Business Dr. Himesh Fernando, Head of Corporate Finance Vathsala Wijekoon, Legal Consultant Maheshi Pieries. Representi­ng SLINTEC were CEO Harin de Silva Wijeyeratn­e, Science Team Leader Prof. Nalin de Silva and representi­ng the Business Developmen­t Team Rashmi Wijekoon.
