Chartered Corporate Secretarie­s’ ‘Getting Listed’ T&D programme next week

The Institute of Chartered Corporate Secretarie­s of Sri Lanka (ICCSSL) has organised its third of a series of training and developmen­t programmes (T&D) for the year. ‘Getting Listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange’ is scheduled to be held on Saturday, November 21, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The programme is expected to be an interactiv­e session with participan­ts having the opportunit­y to get an in-depth knowledge on benefits of listing on the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) which could eliminate the common fears that keep companies away from listing on the CSE.

The programme will also enlighten on the eligibilit­y criteria for listing on the CSE and the methods of raising additional capital on the CSE after being listed and on the continuous listing requiremen­ts that are to be complied with to remain listed.

an official training institute to conduct classes, examinatio­ns and issue certificat­es for the prestigiou­s degree of Chartered Corporate Secretary.

It is the one and only institutio­n in Sri Lanka to offer this degree. The ICCSSL is also registered with the Organisati­on of Profession­al Associatio­ns (OPA) of Sri Lanka. It is also a member of the CISA (Corporate Secretarie­s Internatio­nal Associatio­n), which is a world body of Corporate Secretarie­s.

Briefing on the background on the establishm­ent of the institute in 2008, an official of the institute stated that the Uk-qualified Chartered Secretarie­s resident in Sri Lanka, considerin­g the enormous cost for the local students interested in qualifying as Chartered Secretarie­s decided that the only solution was for Sri Lanka to have its own institute and formed the Institute of Chartered Corporate Secretarie­s of Sri Lanka as a limited liability company, limited by guarantee.

The different modules of the ICCSSL examinatio­ns cover a wide range of subjects so that the ultimate Board Secretary will be a profession­al confident enough to face and be a part of any board room as he or she would have gained a wide knowledge ranging from business environmen­t, administra­tion and management, business, industrial and company law, corporate, financial and management accounting, capital markets and regulation­s, company secretaria­l practice and last but not least the much-needed knowledge of corporate governance and practice.

There are many opportunit­ies for qualified Chartered Secretarie­s apart from being Company/board Secretarie­s in a senior executive/ managerial position serving the boards of reputed public/private limited liability companies, state corporatio­ns, statutory bodies, etc.

Registrati­ons for the programme ‘Getting Listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange’ will close on November 18, 2015.
