PASSING OUT PARADE OF 230 STF RECRUITS

Passing out of the 71st Intake of the Special Task Force (STF) consisting of 230 police constables was held at the Katukurund­a STF Training School on November 27.

Secretary to the Minister of Law and Southern Developmen­t, Jagath P. Wijeweera who was also the chief guest at the passing out parade said the Police Department has been criticized by the society nowadays but, the STF had given honour to the Police Department.

STF Commandant DIG Ranjith Perera addressing the ceremony said, besides they are working to ensure national security in the country which is the priority of their profession, the STF are also conducting large number of islandwide raids to eradicate heroin, drugs and refused tea rackets.

He said there are 58 STF bases all over the country and thousands of STF personnel had been deployed in several places in the country.

ASP (Training) Silvester Wijesinghe has performed the passing out parade as Commander while Director of the Training School SSP Madduma Bandara and SDIG Gamini Nawaratne also participat­ed.

One year training course includes 8 months training at the STF Training School, Katukurund­a and two-weeks jungle training in the Eastern Province will be given for the STF personnel.

The courses will be based on subjects such as physical training, search techniques, field crafts, basic awareness of explosives, map reading & navigation, firing, tactics, battle field first aid, communicat­ion etc.

Trophy for the Best shooter was awarded to the Recruit Police Constable G.A.A. Sandaruwan while the Trophy for the Best Recruit was awarded to Police constable M.W.L.S. Ranasinghe.
