STF nabs cop peddling heroin

A constable attached to the Walana-panadura Anti Vice Striking Unit was nabbed by the Police Special Task Force while peddling heroin, with another man, on a motorcycle in Attanagall­e.

The STF had received informatio­n that two men on a motorcycle were peddling heroin in the area.

The STF officers had identified themselves as policemen and ordered the cyclists to stop. But they had ridden away knocking down an STF officer in the process.

The STF had pursued and apprehende­d them, and found that the pillion rider was a constable attached to the Walana-panadura special police unit -- which is noted for its significan­t detections.

The PC was reportedly helping the other man, a relative, to peddle the narcotics. The STF found over two grams of heroin in their possession.

The pair had been nabbed on November 16th and handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigat­ion. .

According to STF sources the suspect, identified as PC 15427 (Nishantha), and his relative had been engaged in the illicit trade for a long time.

The suspects are to be tried in the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today.
