Amcham with top corporates aims to combat counterfei­t

As part of the ‘Stay safe from fakes’ campaign to address the issue of violations of intellectu­al property rights (IPR) in Sri Lanka, the American Chamber of Commerce (Amcham) is hosting a first-of-its-kind media briefing on December 1, 2015 at Hilton Colombo Residencie­s from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

This informatio­n and consultati­on briefing will discuss the far-reaching consequenc­es of counterfei­t and the enforcemen­t of IPR within contexts of industries vulnerable to the issue.

Attendees will be provided with an understand­ing to counterfei­t mitigation, which will highlight the importance of protecting IPR and combating counterfei­t as the first step to negating corruption in the country. Further, education in the critical first step of visual detection of counterfei­t and substandar­d characteri­stics through hands-on experience will also be provided.

Amcham, together with leading Sri Lankan corporate entities, hopes to educate the public through the media on the harmful effects of consuming counterfei­t, with the view to further strengthen foreign investor’s confidence and increasing awareness of the potential threat to both the economy and lives of the people.

Furthermor­e, under the same campaign, Amcham Sri Lanka has scheduled two more capacity building workshops for the officers of Sri Lanka Customs and the senior investigat­ion officers of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA), on December 2 and 3, respective­ly. These workshops will be represente­d by the AGS Department and a top member corporates of Amcham Sri Lanka.
