Indian junior batsmen show their prowess

Ishan who opened the innings with Himanshu gave the Indian juniors a flying start with the pair putting on 124 runs off 112 balls which was followed by two other valuable partnershi­ps.

The India Under 19 team who will be featuring in a Tri-nation limited over tournament along with host Sri Lanka Under 19 and England Under 19 showed their prowess in their warm up match against the Sri Lanka Emerging Under 19s, played at the SSC ground yesterday which was called off due to bad weather.

The Indian junior batsmen showed their prowess and gave a warning to their opponents with their top three batsmen Himanshu Rana, Virat Singh and Ishan Krishan cracking half tons with Ishan being the quickest of the trio hitting a 50-ball knock of 70.

Ishan who opened the innings with Himanshu gave the Indian juniors a flying start with the pair putting on 124 runs off 112 balls which was followed by two other valuable partnershi­ps.

The first was a second-wicket partnershi­p of 69 runs between Himanshu and Virat Singh before they were separated with the dismissal of Himanshu for a top score of 92.

This followed with a 79-run stand for the third-wicket between Virat and skipper Ricky Bhui which paved the way for the visitors to end their innings with a formidable score of 303 for 7.

The Sri Lanka Emerging Under 19s in their turn started off badly losing their first wicket with five runs on the board. Kaveen Bandara and Asitha Fernando associated in a 56-run stand for the second wicket which followed with the dismissal of skipper Sammu Ashan after which a heavy downpour put a stoppage to proceeding­s with the home team on 64 for 3 having faced 14.5 overs.

The England Under 19 is scheduled to play a warm up match against the same team at R. Premadasa Stadium today and the first match of the Tri-nation tournament between India U19 and England U19 is due to be played at R. Premadasa Stadium on December 11.
