Brown & Company wins Silver at 51st Annual Report Awards

-

Brown & Company PLC, was awarded the Silver prize at the 51st Annual Report Awards ceremony organised by The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka).

CA Sri Lanka, is the national professional accounting body and the sole authority in promulgating accounting and auditing standards in Sri Lanka. The Annual Report Awards, organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka is the benchmark for transparency, corporate governance and excellence in financial reporting.

The theme of this year’s 51st Annual Report competition was ‘Clarity Redefined’. The objectives of the competition was to encourage effective communication to stakeholders through publication of informative annual reports, promote effective presentation of financial & non-financial information, to comply with legislative & generally accepted accounting practices and also to enlighten Sri Lankan corporates on the growing global trends in annual reporting and encourage organisations to adopt best practices in parity with international standards.

Browns emerged victorious amongst tough competition as this year an impressive number of 144 organisations, including blue chip companies, conglomerates and small to medium community operations, all contended for the prestigious honours.

The winners were selected on their ability to clearly communicate the objectives, highlights, performance, personnel and management to a targeted audience. The size, resources, complexity and sophistication of operation of each applicant was considered in the judging process.

“We, at Brown & Company PLC, compiled our Annual Report this year on the theme ‘Simply Legendary’, leveraging on our 140 year heritage and company-wide vision of being ‘Everywhere in life’. Few of the hundreds of companies founded in the 1800s still exist today. The ones that do, are truly legendary. We are humbled and honoured to have been able to place our organisation among these entities”, said Thamotharampillai Sanakan, Chief Financial Officer, Browns Group.

Browns began with James Brown, a young entrepreneur and engineer who travelled to Sri Lanka seeking his fortunes and founded Brown & Company PLC in 1875, which has since grown from strength to strength, making its mark as a household name across the Island.

Browns’ has expanded its portfolio, working with global brands and has achieved significant market leadership, in constantly delivering quality products and services. Today it is a vibrant, fast expanding, diversified conglomerate working in a broad range of industries and firmly established in Power Generation, Home & Office Solutions, Agriculture & Plantation Support Services, Pharmaceuticals, Investments, Marine & Manufacturing and Healthcare.

“Our success is driven by our people and their commitment to get results the right way by working responsibly, executing with excellence, delivering the best quality products and solutions, applying innovative methodologies and seizing new opportunities for organizational and personal growth. Brown & Company PLC has a very clear vision of who we are and where we are going in the years that lie ahead” further said Thamotharampillai.
