MS VOWS TO RESOLVE CONCERNS OF IDPS
President Maithripala Sirisena said he would not allow the government to be toppled by unconstitutional means or by conspiracies as a government can only be changed by the people’s mandate at an election.
He said this at the State Christmas Festival held at the Jaffna Municipal Stadium and assured he would resolve the concerns of the internally displaced persons in six months.
“Some disgruntled extremist groups dreaming of capturing power say that national security has been compromised. They must realize that the Prime Minister and I will never allow the dreams of such conspirators to come true.
I invite those who frighten people by telling media conferences in Colombo that national security has been compromised to visit Jaffna and see with their own eyes,” the President said adding that he would provide them transport to visit Jaffna.
He said the freedom to talk in Parliament should not be abused through the media, instead they should use it to promote peace, harmony and reconciliation by shunning petty party politics. “These disgruntled elements should overcome their frustrations and work towards progress and the eradication of poverty while ensuring there won’t be another war in this country. The government will take steps to solve the problems faced by the displaced people within six months and will appoint a Special task Force for that purpose,” the President said. He said he would strengthen national security and establish the peace that was essential for the people of the North and the South to co-exist in harmony.
“The people in the North, South, East and West elected this government and I have committed myself to fulfil their expectation within the next few years. “I am extremely glad to visit Jaffna at a time the message of peace is being spread all over the world. All of us celebrate Christmas on December 25, Thaipongal in January and Vesak in May. On these occasions we all celebrate the virtues of peace, harmony and brotherhood. These noble qualities are needed to promote inter communal
