Salt launches new collection

- BY Tina Edward Gunawardhana

Rising to the fore in the fashion scene designer Prasanna Segarajasekeran recently launched his Christmas collection. Designing for his label Salt, Prasanna says “This collection is a tribute of sorts to all our favourite styles and prints. We recently moved into our flagship store at 34, 27th lane, Colombo-3 and I thought it would be fitting to do a collection that celebrated some of our most loved styles.” Using a selection of viscose-cotton blends and cotton twill in this collection the silhouettes fuse comfort and elegance and flatter most body shapes. Explaining Salt further Prasanna adds “Salt is all about femininity but with a strong dose of attitude”. Of his muse he says “I don’t have permission to mention my muse’s name as she’s quite shy. She’s an amazing muse though, an absolute star” Catering to a clientele who appreciates the amount of effort that goes into making batik products and enjoy their purchases more as a work of art than a piece of clothing is how Prasanna defines his clientele. “We are truly blessed to have an amazing customer base that understands this and who have been so supportive from our inception” he adds. As Colombo is experiencing an avalanche of batik Prasanna differentiates his label by stating “It is truly inspiring to see so many new designers coming out with amazing pieces of batik going in directions that haven’t been explored yet. I personally believe that we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg in terms of what can be done using this beautiful process that is Batik. When you see others doing amazing work with this process it only pushes you to be better at it too!

Processes we use in making some of our fabric are exclusive to our brand which gives our pieces a different look. However, our clients are able to identify a Salt piece when they see one even when the standard batik process is used in creating it, which is very fulfilling”.

With his distinct prints, colour combinations and silhouettes Prasanna›s batik creations hav immense wearability and durability making them staples in any wardrobe.
