Match tied, St. Anne’s advance to final

The semi final match of the Singer U19 Division Two cricket tournament between St. Anne’s Kurunegala and St. Mary’s Kegalle concluded at Katuneriya yesterday ended in a tie but on virtue of St. Anne’s gaining a close first innings win was sufficient for them to qualify to the finals.

The third day’s play saw St. Anne’s resuming from their overnight score of 146 for 4, lost their remaining six wickets for the addition of 28 runs as they were bowled out for 174 runs.

St. Mary’s set a target of 202 runs for victory made steady progress but were unfortunat­e as they folded up for 201 which saw the match ending in a thrilling tie. St Anne’s will now meet the winner of the other semi-final between Wesley and Sri Dharmaloka MV Kelaniya.
