Outright wins for Southern Province and Western Province North

The four matches of the U19 Inter-provincial cricket tournament which ended yesterday saw two teams, Southern Province and Western Province North, record outright wins at Maggona and Campbell Park while North Western Province and Western Province South recorded first innings wins at Colts ground and P. Sara Stadium.

Amindu Udara’s top knock of 98 laid the foundation for Southern Province to record an innings and 15-run win over North Central Province. The second day’s play saw Southern Province resuming on their overnight score of 166 for 3 going on to make a formidable score of 343 in reply to North Central Province’s score of 147.

North Central Province batting the second time and left with the task of erasing a deficit of 196 runs were unable to achieve it as Harren Buddila, who ended with a five-wicket haul, along Dilum Sudeera combined to bowl them out for 181 runs.

All round performanc­es by Sammu Ashan and Jehan Daniel and an unbeaten run-a-ball knock of 55 runs inclusive of six boundaries and two sixes by Dushan Guruge helped Western Province North coast to a sixwicket win over Uva Province.

Uva Province after being bowled out for 138 runs in the first innings, batting the second time fared better to make a score of 225 runs and Western Province North left with a simple target of 126 runs, which they achieved with ease.north Western Province registered an easy first innings win over the strong Western Province Central side. In fact the outcome was decided at the end of the first day’s play despite Western Province Central making a score of 320 runs in their second innings yesterday. Western Province South too recorded a first innings win against Eastern Province who in reply to their opponents’ score of 296 continuing from their overnight score of 81 for 3 was restricted to a score of 234 for 8.
