Colombo Uni wins IFITTTALK Int’l Award 2015
The Department of Economics, University of Colombo won the Best IFITT-TALK International Award – 2015.
The International Federation for Information Technology and Travel and Tourism (IFITT) actively supports and deals with topics related to Information and Communication Technologies in the travel, tourism, leisure, hospitality and events context.
In October 2015, the Department of Economics at UOC hosted Ifitt-talks@ Colombo on the theme “Modern ICT for interactive Tourism Learning and Education”. Ifitt-talks@colombo won the best IFITT-TALK 2015 award during the enter 2016 conference held in Bilbao, Spain on February 6.
Former Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau Chairman and EXPO 2015 Commissioner General Dr. Rohantha Athukorala spoke on “Role of ICT for Tourism Promotion”. STAX Inc. Managing Director Ruwindhu Peris delivered his speech on “ICT and Business Intelligence”. Following the industry speakers, two students from the Masters in Tourism Economics and Hotel Management programme of the Department of Economics spoke. Dileepa Siriwardene spoke on “Social Media Marketing in Promoting Hotel Industry in Sri Lanka” and Sisitha Weerasekare on “Impact of Etourism on Travel Agency Operations in Sri Lanka”.
Representing UOC Vice Chancellor Prof. Lakshman Dissanayake, Dean of the Graduate Studies Prof. Chandrasiri, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority Chairman Paddy Vithana and Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Authority Dr. Rohantha Athukorala were present at the event.
