Wiggi, three others noticed to appear in Supreme Court
Petition against demanding Federalism
Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran and three others have been noticed to appear in the Supreme Court individually on May 12, 13 and 17 in connection with a petition filed against the passage of a resolution in the Northern Provincial Council (NPC) demanding a federal system in the country.
Ilankai Thamil Arasu Kachchi leader Mavai Senathirajah, Chairman of the Northern Provincial Council, C.V.K. Sivagnanam and Provincial Council Secretary S. Pathmanathan are other respondents to the petition who have been noticed to appear in the court.
The petition accuses that the respondents had allegedly acted against the unitary state of the Constitution and attempted to divide the country and incite terrorism by way of presenting to the government a resolution that demands a federal system of government, after adopting it in the Northern Provincial Council.
NPC Chairmen Sivagnanam said that they had received the petition and they had already discussed the matter with their lawyers. The Chairman said that there was no problem in appearing in Courts. Referring to the contents of the resolution passed by the NPC on April 22, he stated that there was no intention of dividing the country through the resolution and the Northern and Eastern Provinces had been amalgamated for centuries.
