Housing problem would be resolved by 2025: Sajith

The housing problem in the country would be resolved completely by the year 2025, Housing and Constructi­on Minister Sajith Premadasa said in Gampaha recently. The function was held under the patronage of Gampaha District MP Ajith Mannapperu­ma, at the Gampaha Medagama Sri Sunandaram­a Temple hall. The proceeding­s began with the Prelate of the Temple Ven. Thummodera Samitha Thera administer­ing Pansil. Mr. Premadasa said it was the primary aim of the present yahapalana government to find speedy solutions to the poor families of the country who underwent much difficulti­es having no shelter, during the war which lasted for several decades. A total of 967 low income individual­s who do not possess houses from among the 13 electorate­s of the Gampaha district were selected under the programme “Gamen Gamata, Dorin Dorata, Semata Sevana” to receive financial assistance for house constructi­on, ownership of lands and cement at this event.

Sajith Premadasa went on saying that he was happy to quench the housing thirst of these people of Gampaha and he was hopeful of carrying out this task of handing over ownership of lands, cement and loans for the constructi­on of houses islandwide.

He said there were requests from the urban community, fisher folk, estate workers and from those in the North and East areas in large numbers for assistance to construct houses. He said that within six months of assuming power this government had launched this housing project, and within the next two years everybody who does not own a house would become the owners of houses.

He said on this occasion 536 persons would be granted housing loans, 47 title deeds and 384 bags of cement. This act proves that we are not idling, he further said.

State Minister of Defense Ruwan Wijewarden­e in his address thanked Minister Premadasa for finding solutions to the housing problem of the people in the Gampaha district.

He also paid a glowing tribute to the Late President Ranasinghe Premadasa for his concept on providing houses to all those who do not have houses, and his people friendly schemes in providing drinking water, electricit­y and road constructi­on, and thanked Sajith Premadasa for carrying out the good deeds of his father.
