Saverimuth­u Emmanuel Vethanayag­am born on December 12, 1945 in Sillalai “Little Rome“in Jaffna passed away peacefully on June 23, 2016 in Colombo.

Born to an orthodox Catholic parents; Saverimuth­u and Annamma of Sillalai, Pandaterup­pu as the sixth son in the family of seven, of which, three brothers and one sister predecease­d him. He married Fatima Martin Cecilia of Sillalai and blessed with a son and daughter. He lived an exemplary life with adorable noble qualities as a devoted husband of Fatima Cecilia and a precious father of Andrew Sujan and Veroan Swera and a loving father-in-law of Tyronne.

He had his primary education at St.henry’s College Illavalai and his secondary education at St. Patrick’s College, Jaffna. His priority in life was his faith in God and was deeply religious and believed in the power of prayers and a faithful devotee of “Kathirai Chellvee“patroness of Sillalai. He was employed at Petroleum Corporatio­n as Technical Officer and also worked in Saudi Arabia. He shifted to Wellawatte, Colombo with his family and was a parishione­r of St. Lawrence Church, Wellawatte. He was commission­ed as an Extra Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion by the Archbishop of Colombo in 2005 and served in the Parish distributi­ng Holy Communion to the sick at home and in the Church services. He served as President of Sacred Heart Confratern­ity and as Parish Council Member, Cottage Leader, Member of the Church choir, Tamil Translator for church Bulletin ECHO, Member of Church cash counting team and took active role at the sub-parish at St Anthony’s, Mayura Place and was a recognized social worker much respected and loved by young and old.

He bequeaths the best to his family and lived a humble and simple life. A virtues man with moral character always stick to his conscience and will never waver in his words to achieve benefits. He sacrificed his time and resources to help the poor with generous heart and a source of inspiratio­n for many. Indeed his life was not that rosy but by his prayers God blessed him and he triumphed over all adversitie­s and he led a peaceful life.

Vethanayag­am fulfilled his obligation­s towards his family and relatives and cherished his fruitful life on earth and entered into eternal glory to praise and thank the Lord Almighty in Heaven.being a friend, I enjoyed his friendship and wisdom.

May the Merciful God of Love Bless his soul and welcome him into HIS Heavenly Kingdom and grant him eternal bliss.
