Golden Key Hospital acquires next generation equipment for cataract surgery

-

The Golden Key Eye & ENT Hospital has significantly enhanced its cataract surgery capabilities with the acquisition of Alcon’s CENTURION Vision System, the industry’s most advanced phacoemulsification (phaco) technology platform.

Designed to optimise every moment of the cataract surgical procedure to improve patient outcomes, the new CENTURION Vision System combines multiple technologies to set new standards in the performance of cataract surgery, the hospital said.

According to manufacturer Alcon, the new CENTURION Vision System represents the next-generation phaco platform and is the only intelligent phaco technology that automatically and continuously adapts to changing conditions within the eye, providing greater anterior chamber stability during each step of the surgery. It also places optimised energy technology at the surgeon’s fingertips through enhanced fluidic management and surgical precision.

“As the pioneer private superspecialty category hospital in Sri Lanka, we continue to invest in the latest equipment in the market to ensure that our patients benefit from truly cutting-edge technology,” a spokesman for the Golden Key Eye & ENT Hospital said.

“Alcon is the global leader in eye care and this latest Vision System represents a new dimension in precision cataract surgery.”

The new CENTURION Vision System’s Active Fluidics Technology optimises anterior chamber stability by allowing surgeons to proactively set and maintain target intraocular pressure (IOP) within the eye during the cataract removal procedure. This provides enhanced IOP control during the procedure and eliminates the need to manually adjust fluid pressure.

The Balanced Energy Technology feature enhances phacoemulsification efficiency and control while reducing energy levels and accommodating surgeon settings for aspiration and vacuum by keeping the fragmented lens material at the shearing plane for emulsification.

Additionally, Applied Integration enables the new system to be seamlessly integrated with multiple cataract surgical technologies to create a comprehensive cataract surgery suite designed to minimise variability at every step of the procedure. The CENTURION Vision System also offers an improved ergonomic design, wireless footswitch and intuitive touchscreen display. A centre of excellence for eye and Ent-related investigations, treatment and surgery, the Golden Key Eye & ENT Hospital is equipped for all eyerelated investigations including Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and treatment of all eye diseases. Tests such as Fundus Fluorescein Angiography (FFA), Fundus Photography, GDX, A&B scans, Visual field assessment, Pachymetry Binocular Single Vision test, computerised eye tests for spectacles as well as laser treatment and phacoemulsification surgery for cataracts are done routinely at the hospital. It also offers vitreoretinal surgery for problems such as retinal detachment, diabetic eye diseases and intraocular infection.

The Golden Key Eye & ENT Hospital is managed by an Advisory Committee comprising of Professor Rohan W. Jayasekera, former Dean the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Colombo (Chairman), Dr. Saliya Pathirana, Senior Consultant Eye Surgeon, Dr. Saumya Paranawithana, Consultant Eye Surgeon, Dr. Dilruwani Aryasingha, Consultant Eye Surgeon and Niranjan Silva (Chief Operating Officer).
