- BY CHATURANGA PRADEEP

Public Administration and Management Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara said yesterday that many development projects centred on the Hambantota Harbour were expected to begin in the Moneragala District.

He revealed the details of this development plan when the Moneragala District Secretary met him along with several government officials at his ministry.

The proposed Kuda Oya Airport was among the many environment friendly development projects to be launched in the Bibila, Medagama, and Badalkumbura areas, he said.

He said the government expects these projects to be implemented soon, with land already identified and environment assessments also to be conducted to ensure the suitability of the location.

He also stressed the need for officials of the Forest Conservation and Wildlife Department to be proactive and help make these projects by the government a success.

The minister said parallel to these projects another programme is to be implemented with the assistance of the Canadian Government to recycle waste in order to solve the garbage problem of local government authorities in the area.

He stressed the importance of the active participation of every citizen in implementing the development work that was being planned for the region.
