Japan offers to introduce ‘My Number System’ to SL

Japan has expressed its willingnes­s to introduce the concept of the “My Number System”, which had increased the efficiency of the Japanese people’s day-to-day life, to Sri Lanka.

This was revealed when visiting Senior Japanese Parliament­ary member Fukuda Sensai held discussion­s with President Maithripal­a Sirisena at the President’s Official Residence.

My Number system uses modern technology to introduce an electronic card which would be issued to every citizen and will contain all the informatio­n of the card holder. In addition to acting as a fully updated identity card the card could be used by that individual to conduct day to day financial and other transactio­ns.

During the discussion­s the President said that he would look into the possibilit­y of introducin­g such a system to Sri Lanka after consulting the relevant authoritie­s.

The President further said that when he visited Japan for an official visit he was very impressed by the strides Japan had made in the use of modern technology and he also expressed his gratitude to the Government of Japan for offering to introduce modern Japanese technology to Sri Lanka.

President Sirisena recalled the invitation extended by the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzō Abe to visit Japan to see the Olympic which is to be held in Japan. Japanese MP Fukuda Sensai also extended an invitation to the President to visit Japan.

The Ambassador of Japan, Kenichi Suganuma also participat­ed in this discussion.
