A LEGACY THAT WILL NEVER BE FILLED

Cyrilton Sellehewa was an institutio­n at the Old Thomians Swimming Club (OTSC) for thirty years and more, where he burnt the midnight oil to give of his sweat and tears for the cause of the club.

Crossing the ‘Great Divide” he has left a vacuum that will be filled. His dedication and commitment new no bounds and he was honest to a fault furthermor­e the club cloud not have had a better public relations manger he possessed a charismati­c personalit­y that endeared him to all members young or old.

He slipped into the post of manager as it by a decree of nature he was installed as manager while still a member of the club by the late Premalal Gunasekera and led St. Thomas’ to the memorable win over arch Rival Royal College in the ‘Battle of the Blues’ in 1964.

He possessed an encycloped­ic mind he knew the minutest details of all the members, to such an extent the he would rattle off the personal telephone numbers of each and every member of the club at the drop of a that, even to the extent of knowing to the extent of knowing whether they were in arrears and the amounts to the club.

When the club hosted any social event it was Sellehewa who took ton his shoulders to pilot the event without any hiccups.

For his dedicated services the club presented him with a plaque and an envelope. At a special function exclusivel­y for him. He lived to see 82 summers and if he had lived one more he would be an honored guest when the club celebrates their 60th anniversar­y at the B.M.I.C.H this November.

He served under 8 president and 7 general secretarie­s.

He lived frugal life and his offspring a decent eaducation within his modest means to study abroad. Today they are a pride to him and an asset to the country The son and daughter are today holding down top positions in the corporate sector.

He leaves behind apart from his two offspring, a loving and dedicated wife. BRUCE MAURICE
