100th birth anniversary of Lieutenant Francis Clement Pereira
This is a story of a wonderful guy. A guy who knew the human system as much as he knew his business.
Not long ago, I was at a bus stop waiting to go home, and then he came along in his car and offered me a lift.
As I opened the door and was about to jump in, I felt a most excruciating pain at the back of my head. I have experienced that pain many times before whenever I turned my neck at a certain angle.
Knowing my friend’s most interesting profession, I described my illness to him. Without a word, he took his hands off the steering wheel, held my head in a vicious grip from behind, and gave it a violent jerk.
Believe me, I heard the sound of crackling nerves and the pain vanished almost instantly. Not just that, I never had the pain since then.
I was so happy and relieved that I asked him a few questions about the human body. He said “a man should at least give the same care to himself that he gives his motorcar. The problem with most of the people is that they keep on working when their bodies need urgent repair. There ought to be a service station for businessmen who are out of order. Well, you have now seen it for yourself that the right man to carry out such repairs is a physiotherapist.”
To mention his name, my friend was Mr. Francis C. Pereira., formerly physical culturist and physiotherapist of the British Royal Army.
