Super Eight round from Aug. 27 to Sept.25

The Super Eight Round of the Dialog Championsh­ip League football tournament will commence on August 27 and will end on September 25. Matches will be played at the CR and FC and Race Course grounds. The competitio­n is conducted by the Sri Lanka Football Federation and sponsored by Dialog.

The teams which have qualified for the Super Eight are: Dialog Champions League Group A: Sri Lanka Army SC, Solid Scanuradha­pura, Colombo FC and Blue Star SC Kalutara.

Group B: Renown SC, New Youngs SC Wennappuwa, Sri Lanka Navy nd Sri Lanka Air Force.

Last year’s winners were Colombo FC and the runners-up were Renown. Both teams have qualified once again for the Super Eight Round.

This year 16 teams contested for the Dialog Champions League. From the teams unbeaten Sri Lanka Army are in the lead with 22 point and have concluded their matches. They have played eight matches and have won seven. One game had ended in a draw. They have 24 goals for and only four goals scored against them.

Last year’s runners-up Renown SC have collected 21 points and are in second place. They are second to the Sri Lanka Army. Renown has won seven games. They were leading the points table but lost to Sri Lanka Navy and slipped down the ladder. They have won seven, lost one and has scored 26 goals for and has seven goals against them.

The winning team will be in line for a cash award of Rs.seven Lakhs Fifty Thousand. The runners-up will receive Rs. Five Lakhs.
