The car that saved five lives on the road
The concerns for car safety have increased in last few months due to some fatal accidents on Sri Lankan roads.
One of the key reasons for such unfortunate events which can be prevented are that cars are not being up to the required safety standards.
Europe’s EURO NCAP is the leading organization for motor vehicle safety ratings. The locallyassembled Micro Panda car has managed to obtain the safety standard certificate from this organization.
Indika Pushpakumara, a resident of Nuwara Eliya district reveals his horrifying experience of the dangerous accident.
“I was on my way to Kandy on 13th February 2013 with four of my friends. The time was around 4 in the evening, and a big van came towards my car near the Pussallawa area. When I was trying to give way to the van, the car slipped away from the road to the steep 80 feet drop. The car rolled a few times. The car overturned and the air bags had been already deployed at the time. Villagers came to help us and took us out of the car. The first thing I checked was the condition of the others. Luckily everyone was fine and unharmed. I was extremely terrified and the fact everyone was unharmed made my fear fade away.”
Pushpakumara further added: “The vehicle was completely totaled; the whole vehicle body was wrecked. Nevertheless the chassis of the car was intact and the inside was fine. Eventhough the car was in a condemned status the interior was in great shape. The villagers and others who came to the place were praising the safety and the quality of the car which saved our lives.”
When my family came to the accident location, they were amazed that we were not injured. When the insurance claim came, we didn’t have a second though. I straightaway decided to go for another Micro Panda car. Even few of my relatives decided to purchase the same car and now we have five Micro Panda cars among us”.
“Although we drive our cars carefully and safely on roads, there are many ignorant and irresponsible drivers out there. That is why we should always consider about the safety standards of the vehicles we drive. Therefore please think twice about the car you are going to purchase,” Pushpakumara advised.
