SHVS hybrid technology now in Sri Lanka
Associated Motorways (Private) Limited (AMW) has launched the pioneering SHVS hybrid technology in Sri Lanka in two models of their Suzuki car line-up.
SHVS stands for Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki. With SHVS, Suzuki has packed in some clever technology in to its mid-size diesel sedan Ciaz and the diesel multipurpose vehicle (MPV) Ertiga to make them thrive amongst the highest fuel efficient vehicles in the world. SHVS is a mild hybrid technology Suzuki has recently pioneered which gives a significant boost to its brand image which is anyway an enviable one for all its rivals. Following features are the attributes which make up the SHVS system.
Regenerative braking: Suzuki’s new SHVS system works on the principal of regenerative braking where kinetic energy while slowing down is converted to electricity and stored in the battery of the car. The Ciazand the Ertiga diesels equipped with the SHVS technology come fitted with a bigger lead acid battery.
Integrated starter generator: Also referred to as an ISG, this electric motor is powered by the high capacity battery of the car.it is used to supplement the engine’s power while the car accelerates. An engine burns more fuel to gain momentum at higher RPMS as compared to sustaining momentum which is done at lower RPMS and since the ISG motor aids the engine in accelerating, the engine does not have to rev as much when the car accelerates, thereby saving fuel.
Idle start/stop: The Suzuki Ciaz and the Ertiga diesels come with idle start/stop technology that shuts off the engine when the car comes to a halt in order to save fuel in stop and go traffic conditions.
The SHVS hybrid system is a low cost high performance hybrid technology compared to the rival hybrid technologies. This enables AMW to offer the Ciaz diesel mid-size sedan and the Ertiga diesel 7 seater MPV equipped with the SHVS technology, at highly competitive prices, edging out all competition in its wake.
