MAS clinch three titles

MAS clinched three titles at the inter club knock-out Mercantile Table Tennis Championsh­ip that was concluded at S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia on Friday.

They won the men’s division beating Seylan Bank, the women’s division also beating Seylan Bank and the women’s B division defeating HSBC.

A total of 55 teams representi­ng 21 firms participat­ed in the tournament.

The highlight of the tournament was the 38th consecutiv­e appearance of the evergreen Rajiva Wijetunge of MAS. Wijetunge has the distinctio­n of representi­ng three firms Ceylon Tobacco, Ceylinco and now MAS in the tournament.

The chief guest was former nine times national champion Deepika Rodrigo while the guest of honour was Indika Prasad--the national runner’s up seven times. Results (Final result) Men’s Division MAS (Nirmala Jayasinghe, Yohan Deshapriya, Sukitha Wickramana­yake, Gimhan Walisunder­a and Rajiva Wijetunge) beat Seylan Bank (K.S.T. Chalitha Ranjana Sasika Wijesunder­a, Saminda Renuka, Chamith Dinoj and Maitha Dilusha) 3/1. Women’s division MAS (Srimalee Wiamalarat­ne and Kalpani Herath) beat Seylan Bank (Dulmini Wijebandar­a and Chethika Sasini) 2/0.

Women’s ‘B’ - division - MAS beat HSBC 2/0

Men’s - ‘C’ division - Dialog Axiata beat MAS 3/1

Men’s ‘D’ division - Virtusa beat Seylinco 3/1

Men’s - ‘E’ division - Commercial Bank beat Astron SC 3/0 (BM)
