S. Thomas’ open with a win

S. Thomas’ defeated Christ Church College, Matale by four goals to two in the opening fixture of the under 18 All Island National School hockey tournament conducted by the Ministry of Education that began at the Astro Turf on Friday.

In the 18th minute of the game, S. Thisaarach­chi put the Thomians one up, but in the 20th minute R.J.S. Neplen equalized for the Matale boys. In the 22nd minute R. Nallpaperu­ma put the Thomians once again in front. This was the first goal of Nallaperum­a’s hat-trick. As he scored once again in the 28th and 31st minute.

The final goal was off the stick of P.S.W. Dissanayak­e of Christ Church College to give the Thomians a 4-2 win.

Royal College beat St. Thoma’s College Matale by two goals to nil in their All Island under 18 National School hockey match at the Astro Turf on Friday. At half time the score were deadlocked at nil all. In the 41st minute of the game, Pasindu Charika put Royal one up and three minute later, Nadun Jayawarden­a gave Royal their second goal to seal a 2-0 win.

Dharmaduth­a College, Badulla defeated St. John’s College in their hockey match at the Astro turf on Friday.

In the 30th minute of play Dharmaduth­a scored first goal when A. Anjana got his stick on the ball.

But one minute later, S. Sathrak equalized for the Jaffna school

In the 44th minute N. Sandeepan fired the second goal for Dharmaduth­a College to seal a 2-1 win. -BM
