KURUNEGALA GIRLS’ SWEEP SCHOOLS NETBALL TITLE HONOURS

Two teams from Holy Family Convent Kurunegala and Maliyadeva Girls’ School Kurunegala won the three championsh­ips of All Island School Games Netball Tournament 2016 yesterday.

The tournament was conducted by the Ministry of Education and sponsored by Airtel Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. The tournament was held under three age categories. Under 17 and under 19 championsh­ips were won by HFC Kurunegala while the under 15 championsh­ip was won by Maliyadeva Girls’ School Kurunegala.

In the under 17 final, HFC Kurunegala beat Hillwood Kandy by 21 points to 13. In the under 19 final HFC Kurunegala beat Presbyteri­an Girls’ School Dehiwala 30-23. Maliyadeva Girls School beat HFC Kurunegala 14-12 in the under 15 final.

Sanduni Vihara Madampe of Maliyadeva Girls’ School (under 15), Susima Kumari of HFC Kurunegala (under 17) and S.S Sathya of HFC Kurunegala (under 19) won the best player awards. The third place of under 15 age category was won by HFC Kalutara, under 17 third place was won by Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo and Sacred Heart Convent Galle won the third place in the under 19 age category.

The champions of last edition (under 15 category) Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo were beaten by Maliyadeva Girls’ School in the semi-finals.

The defending champions of the under 17 and under 19 categories,hfc Kurunegala was able to secure their places this year as well. Semi-final results Under 15:- HFC Kurunegala beat HFC Kalutara (14-7), Maliyadeva beat Visakha Colombo (16-13)

Under 17:- Hillwood Kandy beat Visakha Colombo (21-19), HFC Kurunegala beat Girls’ High School Kandy (21-15)

Under 19:- Presbyteri­an Dehiwala beat Maliyadeva (28-21), HFC Kurunegala beat Sacred Heart Convent Galle (33-8)
