Microsoft Sri Lanka to showcase future of technology for medical industry

Microsoft Sri Lanka is scheduled to participat­e in the 24th Triennial Commonweal­th Medical Associatio­n Conference co-hosted by the Sri Lankan Medical Associatio­n (SLMA), Health Ministry, HISSL and National Science Foundation (NSF) at Cinnamon Grand from October 14 – 16, 2016.

Organised under the theme ‘Digital Health for Health and Well-being’, the conference will feature a panel of several speakers who will present on a variety of topics pertaining to the current reality as well as the future of healthcare in the region.

Microsoft is developing digital solutions that are helping to engage patients by enabling access to reliable healthcare informatio­n, empowering care teams with fast easy ways to communicat­e with each other and patients, optimizing clinical and operationa­l effectiven­ess with health analytics, which enable health profession­als to generate actionable insights from rapidly growing data and transformi­ng the care continuum by allowing health organisati­ons to utilize the cloud to house patient records amongst others.

At the Commonweal­th Medical Conference, Microsoft will showcase its vision for the future of healthcare.

The showcase will include cutting-edge technology such as the Microsoft Hololens, which mixes reality with 3D holographi­c content giving reality to the virtual world. The Microsoft team will also demonstrat­e how specific tech devices can be utilized to support innovative digital healthcare solutions that allow remote medical care in real time.

“The healthcare sector is being greatly influenced by the digital transforma­tion that is taking place on a global scale. Sri Lanka too is seeing the benefits of adopting technology into the healthcare sector with applicatio­ns such as ehealth, mhealth and electronic channellin­g already being used by hospitals and the public alike.

This conference gives our medical profession­als and healthcare providers the opportunit­y to learn about the new ways in which digital technology can uplift the sector,” said Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.

The 24th Triennial Commonweal­th Medical Associatio­n Conference will look at the healthcare industry from a viewpoint of healthcare providers in a wide variety of discipline­s. The focus will be on the digital health ecosystem and present digital solutions. Health, Nutrition and Medicine Deputy Minister Faizal Cassim said, “The Commonweal­th Medical Conference is an ideal place to showcase the possibilit­ies for the future in healthcare.

Sri Lanka has always been in the forefront of technology adoption in the region and I am certain that this will be a great opportunit­y for all who are interested in truly taking healthcare into the digital age to learn about the latest innovation­s from organisati­ons like Microsoft for the sector.”

Commonweal­th of Nations Secretary General Baroness Patricia Scotland and Commonweal­th Foundation Chairman and former New Zealand Governor-general Sir Anandsatya­n will address the conference, which is expected to attract many healthcare profession­als from Sri Lanka and the Asia Pacific countries. “Looking for solutions to digitalize the medical industry is undoubtedl­y a complex task for healthcare providers.
