Three Commissioners also planning to do so
In the wake of President Maithripala Sirisena’s outburst against the alleged politicization of the Bribery Commission, its Director General Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe submitted her resignation letter to the President yesterday.
The DG of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption had in her letter said she wished to resign from her post with immediate effect.
The letter sent to the Presidential Secretariat was to be brought to the notice of the President who had returned from India around 4.30 p.m. yesterday.
She declined to comment further on her decision to resign after her return to the country on Saturday after attending a one-week training programme in Malaysia.

Commission, the FCID and the CID were functioning according to political agendas. Meanwhile, three other Commissioners of the Bribery Commission are also said to be planning on stepping down from their posts soon against the background of the developing situation where their services were labelled as politically motivated.
One of the three Commissioners said they too would consider resigning from their posts because of the unfavourable situation that had arisen.
He said by the Director General’s decision to step down from her post, the promise of good governance in government’s manifesto on bringing those found guilty of fraud, corruption and criminal activities to book would undoubtedly be shattered.
Former Solicitor General and President’s Counsel Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe was appointed as the Director General of the Bribery Commission on February 12 last year by President Maithripala Sirisena.
