TNA will stand firm on PTA, says Sumanthiran

- BY K.AHARAN

I had earlier released a report without looking at the draft of the Prevention of Terrorism Act on its content. It was only after that action was taken to present the draft in Parliament and two supervisory committees were appointed, Jaffna District Parliamentarian M.a.sumanthiran said.

“However we will not allow it to be passed in Parliament and we will not work against the regime of Good Governance to bring back Mahinda Rajapaksa to power either,” he said

During the meeting of the Thamil Arasu Kadchchi with the people in Vavuniya, many questions were put forward by the public that were replied by Parliamentarian Sumanathiran . saying that it wont come right changing it altogether,” he said.

“Whatever it might be we will not allow the particular Act to be implemented. People may not have faith in us, but they should trust us judging from our actions. Just because they were able to do that for the first draft we will not work against the government and bring back Mahinda Rajapaksa to power,”mr Sumanthiran said.

‘With regard to political prisoners a promise was made that it would be decided before 2015 November 7 and the political prisoners were also told that to give up their fast unto death .But the promise given by the government was not honoured.’’he further said.

‘I mentioned this in Parliament “We are also a part of the Constitutional Assembly.without our consent, no settlement plan can be submitted. When the first draft came regarding the missing persons, we told them to throw it into the garbage that we had been cheated on this issue. I was questioned as to why I was speaking like that. I said I am speaking the truth,” the Parliamentarian said.

“The political prisoners were 217 in number, but they have been reduced to 96. After discussing with the remaining prisoners, rehabilitation was sought by them.. They pleaded guilty and 99 prisoners signed up to say that they were willing to go for rehabilitation. I said it was against the law and filed two lawsuits in the High Court..at present after discussing with several people, we have arranged rehabilitation for them once again’, he said.
