LHI wins NCE Gold for service exports

Lanka Hydraulic Institute Ltd (LHI), cherishing its over 30 years of continuing service in the country’s export sector, has won Gold in the recently concluded 24th annual NCE Export Awards Ceremony.

Being a major player in the consultanc­y business in the services export sector, LHI has continuous­ly been honoured with Silver and Bronze for last seven years and this is the first time the company has achieved the coveted Gold. In honouring LHI’S outstandin­g accomplish­ments in the engineerin­g field, the Institutio­n of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) also conferred LHI the Engineerin­g Excellence Award in the past.

LHI specialize­s in coastal engineerin­g, inland water and urban water and drainage services. Equipped with a state-of-the-art hydraulics laboratory and a wide variety of in-house expertise, LHI provides consultanc­y services in port planning and design, field investigat­ions and numerical and physical modelling of coastal/inland water structures, etc. Since its inception, LHI has conducted over 350 projects in Sri Lanka and overseas.

All its processes are streamline­d, quality assured and in accordance with ISO 9001:2008. LHI’S services are proudly relied upon by a number of internatio­nal clients in Algeria, Bangladesh, Belize, Bhutan, Brunei, Eritrea, France, India, Iran, the Maldives, Mauritius, Oman, Senegal, South Korea and the UAE.

During the fiscal year 2015/16, LHI has successful­ly completed several foreign projects including: resort developmen­t in North Male Atoll (Maldives), shore protection in East of Mostaganem Port (Algeria), physical model studies of six fishery harbours (Oman), numerical modelling for artificial resort island project (Maldives) and hydraulic model studies for a pleasure port developmen­t in Tlemcen (Algeria).

Prioritisi­ng its commitment to local projects, LHI currently proceeds with more than 10 consultanc­y projects including, proposed fishery harbour in Wellamanka­ra, salinity barrier across Kalu Ganga, flood study in Deduru Oya, conceptual design of sewerage sea outfall in the DMMC area, etc.

LHI also provides its services on field and modelling investigat­ions for the much focussed Colombo Port City Developmen­t Project. In addition, LHI’S long-standing partner – Hydro Marine Ingénierie (HMI) of Algeria – has yet again entrusted LHI for a comprehens­ive numerical and physical modelling campaign for a fishery harbour project in Sidi Ladjel (Algeria).
