Drug den busted in Periyamull­a with heroin and illicit cigarettes

Police Special Task Force Headquarte­rs Raiding Unit busted a drug den in Periyamull­a, Negombo and nabbed a boutique owner with heroin and illicit cigarettes.

The STF sleuths on a tip off on April 01, used a decoy to buy cigarettes from a grocery shop on St. John’s Street in Periyamull­a learning the shop owner was selling counterfei­t cigarettes.

When the sleuths in plain clothing had bought some cigarettes and told the shop owner that they were illicit brand, the latter had confronted to attack them with a sharp knife.

However, by using minimum force and revealing their identity as STF personnel the boutique owner was forced to surrender to the police.

Inside his shop they found 3,112 sticks of cigarettes of an illicit brand that had been smuggled into the country. The STF also searched his house located behind the shop and made a startling detection of narcotics.

They found 1,290 milligrams of heroin, 490 grams of Kerala Ganja, two electric scales used to weigh drugs, 27 cellular SIM cards, nine mobile phones, seven National Identity Cards and two driver’s license along with a dagger.

The 36-year-old suspect identified as Mohamed Abdullah Mohamed Rizwan was handed over to the Negombo Police for further investigat­ions with the seized illicit items.

Meanwhile, three other heroin detections were carried out on the same day where two females and a man were taken into custody for peddling narcotics.

A house was raided in the fisheries village and seized a woman who was packing 1,600 milligrams of heroin in small sachets. They also found cash amounting to Rs. 59,080 from her possession.

Another woman who was transporti­ng 980 milligrams of heroin in her pocket was arrested at Don Bosco Mawatha in Eththukala.

A man who was possessing 1,000 milligrams of heroin along with cash of Rs.17,000 was also taken into custody from Koppara Junction in Negombo.

All the detections were carried out under the supervisio­n of STF Commandant Senior DIG M. R. Latiff.
